As an American myself, I had no idea this was offensive. Though according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rising_sun_flag#Design) it looks like it may be offensive to those affected by WWII. I'm not surprised that it wasn't caught in the App Store review process though. I think the offensiveness of this flag depends on where in the US you live.
